(WSSA) STACK UP! ITE 2009 (SINGAPORE)
Most People Sport Stacking in Multiple Locations in One Day
More than 250,000 people from various countries all over the
world including Singapore participated in the Guinness World
Records Day to set a new record for the “Most Number
of People Sport Stacking in Multiple Locations in One Day”.
The record-setting count being submitted to Guinness stands
at 276,053 representing 1,252 schools and organizations from
24 different countries.
Participants had to stack specially designed plastic cups
in predetermined sequences using alternative hands. They competed
on speed, in individual events, relays and a variety of fitness
activities for at least 30 minutes.
Singaporeans played their role to contribute to this new record
as well. The largest event held in Singapore was jointly organised
by Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College East and
Red Dot Explorer Pte Ltd. Together they contributed an auspicious
number of 999 participants to make up the total number. Students,
lecturers and even children as young as 2 years old and a
grandfather as old as 89 years old took part in the World
Record Event held at ITE College East in Simei
“Stacking is a simple, portable and
weatherproof activity that helps build confidence and also
develop the use of the right and left brain,” Mr Heng,
Section Head from Electrical Dept at ITE said. He added that
stacking was a good exercise for the elderly as it improved
motor skills and mental alertness.
