The Singapore Red Cross launched a nationwide photography competition in October 2003. Targeted at young people and photography enthusiasts, the Competition themed " people Helping People", is aimed at showcasing the various ways the public can help the less fortunate and at the same time highlighting the plight of the less fortunate amongst us. The competition is part of the larger campaign aimed at encouraging more Singaporeans to do what they do best in serving humanity.

At the close of the competition on 7 February 2004, a total of 108 entries under the Student Category constitute mainly from NUS, NTU and   Polys and 112 for the Open Category were submitted. Coming in third in the Student Category is our second year Building Services Technology student Kimberley Ng with her winning entry of a young lady sheltering an elderly woman in a wheel chair .

During the prize presenting ceremony on March 13th, Chairperson of the Singapore Red Cross People Helping People Photography Competition, Mrs Joy Balakrishnan said: "The competition was organised with the aim of promoting the values of serving the most vulnerable at home and abroad. We wanted to show that it doesn't take much to make a difference in another person's life. It is our hope that being able to capture acts of 'people helping people' on photo would be an inspiration to others."
