| ASHRAE Technical Conference
In Malaysia and Community Service by ITE students
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning
Engineers (ASHRAE) is the world's foremost technical society
in the fields of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and
refrigeration.
Four students led by Mr Derrick Cheong, a lecturer from Building
Services Technology Department went to Malaysia on 25th August
2006 for a 3-day ASHRAE technical conference held at Sunway
lagoon. During the conference, students had the great opportunity
to learn from the overseas professionals in various topics
in building environment, air conditioning and refrigeration
technology.
Students had the chance also to visit the Dunham Bush factory
which manufactured large refrigeration equipment and machines.
One of the highlights of the visit was the community service
done by the students where the students demonstrated to the
group of 20 students from University of Malaya on how to service
the ten sets of split type air conditioning units located
at the technology block.
Though it was tiring after the servicing of the air con units,
the student leader Wee Loon recalled that,”….I
will never ever forget this project for the rest of my life..”
