| ASHRAE Conference in
Manila
The Philippines is an archipelagic country located in Southeast
Asia with Manila as its capital city. The Philippine archipelago
comprises 7,107 islands in the western Pacific Ocean, sharing
maritime borders with Indonesia, Malaysia, Palau, the Republic
of China (Taiwan), and Vietnam. It is a multi-ethnic country.
Ecologically, the Philippines is considered to be among 17
of the most mega diverse countries in the world.
This year 2008, ASHRAE Region XIII held its 11th Chapters
Regional Conference @ SMX Convention center, Manila, Philippines
from Aug 28th to 30th.
5 students from ITE-ASHRAE student chapter namely Zahirudin
(the student leader), Jun Yi, Sufi ,Yi Ru & Sarah attended
the conference at Manila this year.
They had the opportunity not only to attend the technical
talk from the world renowned speaker on the area of air conditioning
& refrigeration technology but also to visit the Carrier-Concepcion
air con manufacturing plant , University of Mapua & the
lovely city. Everywhere they went to, they were welcomed by
the warmest, friendly and informal people in the world.
During one of the dinner nite, the 5 students used the recycled
material that they could possibly source from the workshop
to create “stomp-like” musical drama. Visitors
from the Asia region were impressed by their excellent talent
and performance. They were also inspired by the message of
“maintaining the green, saving Gaia” that they
would like to bring across to all the people.
Students learned a great deal from this trip. They realized
that though the constant struggle with poverty with lacking
of infrastructure , the Filipinos never failed to show their
love of life by their smiles and sense of humor.
The Filipinos live for TODAY, work to live, NEVER live to
work as in many developed countries. Taking care of their
elderly personally and as they struggle with incredible poverty
remain good natured finding the simple joys of life enough
to smile. So when visiting the Philippines again, the students
will do as they do SMILE, it's a beautiful life. DON'T WORRY
BE HAPPY!
