     Citibank-YMCA Youth For Cause Project

Citibank-YMCA Youth For Causes is essentially a social entrepreneurship program that provides seed funding to youths to develop creative ideas to promote a social cause of their choice, and raise funds for charitable organizations. Student leaders from ITE ASHRAE College East, Yao Xing, Jin He and Michael Yeo together with the rest of the 33 students participated in this eventful program in year 2005 July.

The Citibank-YMCA Youth For Causes program infuses the spirit of entrepreneurship into community work. It is part of service learning, and participating youths and non-profit organizations are given the opportunity to experience what it takes to self-initiate and sustain a business for a social cause.

The group from ITE-ASHRAE worked out a plan to service the air con units at HDB areas to raise fund for the needy welfare organization , Jamiyah Children Home. The students sacrificed their precious weekends and went around servicing the air con units for HDB dwellers just to raise fund.

The success of the Citibank-YMCA Youth For Causes program was reinforced by an enthusiastic volunteer mentor from Citibank of Singapore, Mr Alan Lee, who provided the participating group with project management supervision and guidance throughout the duration of their project. Mr Alan Lee not only gave the groups invaluable creative inputs, but also helped them to overcome challenges, and gained essential life skills budgeting, managing a project and teamwork. The group would not be able to raise some $2700 for Jamiyah Children Home without the help from Mr Alan Lee .
