– Performance Green Buildings Seminar by ASHRAE President

ASHRAE Singapore Chapter is delighted to announce
the Half day Seminar on 5th April 2010 at BCA Auditorium, Braddell
road in conjunction with launching Standard 189.1 by our Society.
The Theme of the Seminar is “High Performance Green Buildings”
and we have two eminent speakers coming down to Singapore to
enlighten us on the subject. To introduce about Standard 189.1
to Singapore Professionals, our President Mr. Gordon Holness,
will be coming all the way from USA. Mr. Vincent Tse managing
Director of Parsons Brinckerhoff Asia, Hong Kong Office and
Distinguished Lecturer of ASHRAE is joining us to speak about
Building Energy Management.
This Seminar is one of the few being organized by the collaborative
efforts of ASHRAE Singapore Chapter (ASC) and BCA academy to
benefit Singapore Professionals. We are also inviting NEA and
Spring Singapore to attend the seminar to promote the new ASHRAE
standard 189.1
The fee for the above Seminar, which includes a Lunch, is S$100
for non-ASC members and free for ASC members.
For ASHRAE society members to register as an ASC member, please
fill the ASC membership
form and enclose a cheque of S$90 (S$ 30 joining fee and
yearly membership fee of S$60).

Speaker 1: Gordon Holness, President, ASHRAE
Gordon V. R. Holness, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE, Life
Member, is a consulting
engineer, Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich.
As ASHRAE’s president, Mr Holness directs the Society’s
Board of Directors
and oversees the Executive Committee. His presidential
theme, Sustaining Our
Future by Rebuilding Our Past, addresses energy efficiency
in
existing buildings.
Mr Holness is a member of the Advanced Energy Design Guide
Steering Committee and the Headquarters Building Renovation
Committee. He has served as chair of numerous committees
and councils most recently Members Council, the Advocacy
Committee and the Steering Committee on Building Information
Modeling and Interoperability.
He formerly served on the Board of Directors as president-elect,
vice president and director-at-large. Mr Holness has received
the Exceptional Service Award, the Distinguished Service
Award, the Journal Paper Award and three ASHRAE Technology
Awards.
ASHRAE Standard 189.1 –
Standard for the Design of High Performance Green Buildings
This presentation will discuss the development of the
ANSI/ASHRAE/USGBC/IES Standard 189 for High Performance
Green Buildings and its objectives. The presentation will
also outline the scope, contents and provide guidance
for adoption in green buildings. The standard encompasses
building siting, design, construction and operation, building
materials, site sustainability, water conservation, indoor
air quality, energy efficiency, construction methodologies,
commissioning, operation and maintenance.
Speaker 2: Vincent Tse, Manager Director
Vincent Tse is the Managing Director of Parsons Brinckerhoff
Asia, Hong Kong Office.
Mr Tse has over 30 years of experience in mechanical and
HVAC systems
design with particular focus on the following areas:
• Superhighrise buildings and mega projects with
large GFA
• District Cooling and Heating
• Vertical Transportation System
• Hospital and University Research Projects
• Energy Conservation and Management
• Sustainable System Design
• CFD Application and Fire Engineering
Mr Tse is a Fellow of ASHRAE and is currently ASHRAE’s
Distinguished Lecturer.
He was ASHRAE Vice President in 2007-09 and Director &
Regional Chair of Region XIII in 1998-2001.
Mr Tse is also a Fellow of CIBSE, IMechE, IHEEM of UK
and a Fellow of HKIE.
Building Energy Management and Implementation
The presentation will focus on the Building Energy Management
methodology and approach, and following up by case studies
to illustrate how Energy Management Implementation can
be achieved in a Convention Centre, a commercial development,
a government complex and a church building.
